Bristol’s O2 Academy was treated to a hefty lineup on Tuesday night, featuring four heavy bands hailing from the USA and Australia for the final night of The Amity Affliction’s House Of Cards Tour.
Opening the show were Orthadox, a heavy-hitting metalcore outfit from Nashville, TN. Orthadox made light work of warming up the crowd. Moshers were ready and willing from the outset, happily obliging when frontman Adam Easterling told the movers in the crowd to “become a f*****g problem”. The room might not have been full by this point, but the people who were there to move certainly filled the space.
There was no rest for the crowd as next up were Varials, who once again got people in the pit hurting each other from a place of positivity. The room had filled a little more by this point, and the energy was starting to rise. On stage, the band let the room know they wouldn’t accept any dips in this energy. Silent Planet vocalist Garret Russell joined Varials on stage for the end of their set, leaving fans pumped up and ready for the final support.
Silent Planet gave the room a bouncier vibe, much like The Amity Affliction; their songs, whilst still heavy and powerful, featured more melodic breaks and clean vocals. A mixture of two-stepping and hip swaying could be seen in the crowd. Vocalist Garret Russell captivated the entire crowd with his fierce energy and expressive stage presentation, ensuring the crowd was ready for Aussie metalcore titans The Amity Affliction.
Opening their set with one of their older and most iconic songs, ‘Pittsburgh’ was a greatly received choice as the crowd immediately erupted into a nostalgic frenzy - screaming the lyrics back to the band with their whole hearts. This was the story of the entire set - everyone in the room giving it their all the whole way through. The view from the balcony was endless smiles and movement, while The Amity Affliction proved on stage why they’re one of the biggest names in melodic metalcore.
