A CONVERSATION WITH... eville

Missed Reading and Leeds 2025? We got your back with our 13 artists to watch. Next up is EVILLE — a genre-creating, rule-breaking band that’s much sweeter than their name suggests. Jump into EVILLE with their upcoming EP, BR4T MBL.

 Jude

On my left is Eva, vocalist of EVILLE. She only has one guitar that she uses live, no backups. Very hardcore.

Eva

Because I want to keep my Hello Kitty Fender in the best condition. And to my right is Jude, bass player and vocalist. Jude’s an amazing producer. He’s produced a lot of our stuff, like with ‘Get With Me’ and co-produced our upcoming EP.

Jude

To my right is Milo, the drummer. He does his own hair, cuts it and dyes it and everything.

If people are getting into music this weekend, what do you think your music says about you all? What’s the message you’re trying to get across with your music?

Eva

The whole idea behind it is rebellious energy. Doing what you wanna do. It’s empowering. I want people to feel empowered when they listen to our music, because I love that feeling when I'm listening to a song and it's making me feel strong and empowered. I want to pass on that feeling.

Jude

There's no rules with our music. Whatever we wanna do, we're gonna do because it’s our genre. It’s the ‘brat-metal’ genre, we coined that name and everything. We get to create the rules.

Eva

We don't like being tied down to one specific thing. That’s definitely a theme of all our songs.

Jude

If we have a message we wanna say in a song, we'll write a song about it. If we have some stupid thing to say, we wanna write a song about that too.

Eva

We really like having a range of subjects like that. Something for every mood.

Speaking of your songs, we're also doing for the festival season: ‘Fuck, Marry, Kill’ for your own songs.

Eva

I would fuck our next single, ‘No Pictures, Please.’ I love that song. It's so much fun. Milo

I think I'd marry ‘Leech’. It’s loyal, it’s been by our side, it’s marriage material.

Jude

You want something that will suck the blood out of you.

Eva

To be fair, ‘Leech’ is all about toxic situations, actually.

Milo

You know, it's quite serious and fun to play.

Eva

I'm gonna say kill ‘Monster’. Because it's a monster, you kill them usually.

Jude

Yeah, I think I would marry ‘Plaything’ because I love playing that one so much. I want that for life.

If there were an artist that you could say how much they mean to you, which artist would you say that to?

Jude

That’s hard because when you're a smaller band and you start to meet the artists that have inspired you, you have to start balancing work and being a fan of someone.

Eva

I'd say something to Limp Bizkit. I would say thank you for breaking down some barriers in this genre and pushing boundaries. I appreciate that because they paved the way so that bands like us could do this kind of genre. I feel like we share a lot of similarities with Limp Bizkit. They’re definitely a big inspiration. I'd say thank you for being you and not listening to anyone.

Milo

There’s a band called Battles and they inspired me to play drums. They pushed boundaries too, didn't they? They do drumming in an entirely different way. I feel like that's cool.

Jude

I think mine would be Loathe. I love that band and I listen to their music all the time. I had a really awful thing happen last year and it helped. It's inspired me so much in terms of genre and stuff. I did get to meet some of them at Download and they were so nice.

That's always good as well when you finally meet somebody and they’re actually really nice. What question would you leave for the band after you?

Eva

How was the sound for your set? What was your experience with the sound and everything? I'm genuinely just curious about the tech side things. I always love hearing from other bands about how everything went for them. They can lie if they want. The sound for our set was great. Our sound man was brilliant. Shout out Tom, go hire him if you can.

Milo

Our first time ever using him, because he had to step in last minute as well. We had the soundman we'd intended to use pull out a week ago, so he really stepped up.

Jude

There was definitely one issue with something going on and he sorted it out for us. So, big thank you.

Shout out Tom. What's the question that you guys wish you got asked in interviews?

Eva

I think this is a fun one. If you could only bring one thing to a show, what would you bring?

Jude

A billion pounds.

Eva

My answer is a karaoke machine.

Milo

Yeah, but then you don't have a billion pounds. You just have a karaoke machine you can buy with the billion pounds.

Eva

I could at least do something, like my part of the gig. Assuming they still have something at the venue, the show can kind of go on.

Milo

I like the karaoke machine idea. Running through all of our gear in my head and none of it runs independently by itself. So I get it. I’ll bring my Oakleys so no one could see me crying.

What's been like something that you’re so glad that you've written? Song, lyric, bassline?

Jude

The first verse of our last single ‘BR4T MBL’. It’s a song about cars, obviously. There's such a big community of car modding and it’s very male-lead. So we thought about spinning around and make it female-lead. In the first verse, we have it so that each sentence goes up the gears. You get ‘First off the line, you're a second too late, you’ve got nothing on me. You're so third rate. Back and forth on my rev clock. On my fifth lap and I'll never stop. Hit the sixth gear...’

Milo

Honestly, I'm really proud of all the lyrics in that song. We did our research.

Eva

It's kind of ironic because I started writing that song before I even had my driving license. I’m a nervous driver. I drive this little shitbox ship box Micra. It's just so ironic. Jude did buy me some hubcaps that make it look a lot more expensive now. Also, the lyrics to ‘Leech’ are very meaningful to me. They're my favourite lyrics I've ever written. And I've added a few Easter eggs in there so that people who are going through what the song is about will know that that's what the song is about.

What do you guys have planned for 2025 that you can share?

Jude

Our debut EP “BR4T MBL” is coming out on October 17th. We’re really excited about it. And we’re gonna be playing it in front of people, expanding the EVILLE territory.

Jude

And then we've got another single, ‘No Pictures, Please’ on September 10th.

Eva

We're gonna be playing some places we’ve never been before, and a few more announcements coming out.

You've been sharing a lot already, which I love, but what's been a moment of joy that you guys want to share?

Jude

I have a really sappy one. Meeting these two because they're my best friends.

Eva

It's funny cause whenever I was round at his place, hanging out with his roommates, Jude would always be in his room. For some reason I wanted to hang with this dude. I feel like I have some kind of connection with him. It's really weird. Then we went on a night out together and I said, ‘tomorrow, he's in the band. We have to get him in the band.’ That changed both me and Milo's lives for the better.

Jude

That's what music does. It brings people together.
