LIL PEEP - HIGH FASHION EP

High Fashion enters Lil Peep’s discography with a warm welcome, giving emphasis on how timeless his sound is for the genre.

High Fashion, The new posthumous EP from Lil Peep and Hip-Hop producer Harry Fraud released this Friday, further proving that the late artist was a pioneer and a main influence for Emo Rap in the industry.

At 9 minutes long, the EP provides the usual melancholic sound audiences have come to love Peep for, matched with stylish beats featuring jazz undertones that truly justify the project’s title and theme of High Fashion.

Each song presents an individual strength, with ‘Choose,’ the opening track having the most memorable chorus of the three, with a trap instrumental surrounding it. Leading into ‘Living Rooms,’ which has an exceptional instrumental, infused with saxophone and soft vocals, both tracks present the subject matter of toxic relationships and drug addiction, a personal and common theme for the late rapper.

The highlight of the EP comes with the last track, ‘Old Me,’ a more alternative sounding song, led by acoustic guitars, drums and faint violins. In contrast to the previous songs, he comes to terms with his own personal change due to fame, drugs, and relationships, rather than embracing it as seen prior. It is a song that stylistically could easily be placed in mixtapes such as Hellboy and Crybaby, further referencing his old style. With harrowing and foreshadowing lyrics, it shows us how well the artist knew himself.

Throughout the years, audiences have been hearing new sounds from the late artists that were previously vaulted and presented a different side of Lil Peep. Even though High Fashion was recorded before the artists unfortunate passing in 2017, it enters his discography with a warm welcome, giving emphasis on how timeless his sound is for the genre.
